A Call for Help
December 2024. While the world was busy decorating trees and wrapping gifts, Lambies Farm Rescue received an urgent call from Mooralla, Victoria. A farmer, rounding up his sheep, had discovered a handful of off-season newborns - fragile, tiny, and at risk of being crushed in the bustling yards.
Their survival depended on swift action.
So, after work, I made the journey. Five newborn lambs - (left to right) later named Benny, Charlie, Jaz, Criket, and Mouse - were awaiting my arrival. Their small, delicate bodies needed warmth, care, and endless patience.
From Fragile Beginnings to Unbreakable Bonds
Bottle feeds became my world, every few hours nurturing their fragile frames. Surprisingly, they weren’t the typical sunrise screechers - these boys had a knack for sleeping in until 6 a.m. (a rare treat in the world of rescued lambs!).
But what truly made them special was their personalities. These weren’t just rescued lambs; they were a brotherhood - mischievous, adventurous, and deeply bonded.
Mouse: the tiny hole 'escape-artiste', a seasoned trickster. Criket: the loudest of the bunch, never ending calls for attention and treats. Charlie: the performer delivering his signature singsong bleats like a natural born star. Benny: a mummy's boy, never leaving my side, always seeking comfort and affection. Jaz: a heart-melter with doe-eyes and long fluttering eye-lashes, an instant mood booster.
They stick together through every adventure, following one another with unbreakable trust—brothers in every sense.
Thriving in Their New Life
From endless bottle feeds to their graduation to a molasses mix and sweet biscuits, they’ve evolved into confident, joyful lambs. They love the crunch, and they love their home - a farm where they are free to grow, play, and live without fear.
These Christmas lambs were given a chance they never expected. And now, they’ve given joy back to the farm in ways words can hardly capture.
