Writing Egg-star-ordinary
A Quiet Tale About Becoming Enough
There are some stories you write because you planned them.
And then there are the stories that arrive quietly, like a tap on the shoulder.
My latest tale, ‘Egg‑star‑ordinary’ was one of those.
It began with a simple challenge: to write something unexpected around Easter. Then I thought of a plain little egg who wished he was an Easter Egg. Shiny. Admired. Wrapped in colours that made everyone look twice. I didn’t know exactly where the idea came from - only that it carried an emotion many of us recognise.
That feeling of wanting to be seen for more than what’s on the outside.
As I wrote my tale, Little Egg became every child who has ever wondered if they were “enough”. And Easter Egg became that friend - the one who seems to glow effortlessly, but who understands that being shiny isn’t the same as being special.
Somewhere in the middle of drafting, I realised the story was more about self‑worth and the quiet bravery of being yourself.
The Lambies universe has always been built on gentle truths, and this story fits the stable quite nicely.
And so, Egg‑star‑ordinary became a little Easter tale - not about chocolate or religion or bunnies, but about the kind of magic that lasts long after the season ends. The magic of liking who you are, even when you’re not so shiny.
Especially when you’re not shiny.
